To appear for IMUCET, you must meet the eligibility criteria, set by the Indian Maritime University.
Educational Qualification
You must have completed class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized board.
Minimum Marks
- 60% aggregate marks in PCM
- 50% marks in English subject in either 10th or 12th exams
NOTE: Qualifying these minimum criteria is important, however, for sponsorship, companies prefer those candidates having 70% or above in 12th board.
Age Limit
For Male:
Maximum age: 25 years for general; 28 years for OBC-NCL; and 30 years for SC/ST.
For Female:
Maximum age: 27 years for general; 30 years for OBC-NCL; and 32 years for SC/ST.
Medical Fitness
Students must meet the medical standards set by the Directorate General of Shipping. Good eyesight and overall fitness are important for most Merchant Navy courses.

IMU CET Exam Pattern and Syllabus
Understanding the IMUCET exam pattern and syllabus is essential for effective preparation.
The IMUCET is conducted in CBT mode and consists of multiple-choice questions. Candidates are required to answer questions within the allotted time.
The duration of the exam is 3 hours and is conducted in Medium English.
There are a total of 200 questions. +1 for every correct answer and -0.25 negative marking for every incorrect answer. No marks deduction for unanswered questions.

IMU CET Result, Rank List, and Merit List
After the IMUCET examination is conducted, the Indian Maritime University releases the result, followed by the rank list and merit list.
IMUCET Result
The IMUCET result is the first stage of the admission process. The result indicates whether a candidate has qualified for the next stages of the admission process but does not guarantee admission to any course or college.
IMU CET Rank List
After the declaration of results, IMU prepares a rank list based on candidates’ performance in the entrance examination. Each qualified candidate is assigned an All India Rank (AIR), which determines their position among all test-takers.
The rank list is one of the most important factors during counselling because candidates with higher ranks generally receive preference during seat allotment. A better rank increases the chances of securing admission to top IMU campuses and popular courses.
IMU CET Merit List
The merit list is different from the rank list. It is prepared after considering multiple eligibility factors such as:
- IMUCET rank
- Category reservation (if applicable)
- Eligibility criteria
- Medical fitness requirements
- Availability of seats
- Course preferences submitted during counselling
Only candidates who satisfy all the required conditions are included in the merit list for seat allocation.
After the IMUCET merit list is released, shortlisted candidates become eligible to participate in the IMU counselling process. During counselling, candidates are required to register, fill in their preferred colleges and courses, and lock their choices within the specified deadline.
Seat allotment is carried out based on several factors, including the candidate’s IMUCET rank, merit position, category reservation, medical fitness, course preferences, and the availability of seats. Once a seat is allotted, candidates must complete the document verification process and pay the prescribed admission fee to confirm their admission. Successfully completing these formalities secures your seat in the allotted institute.
