HIMT DNS Sponsorship

HIMT Group of Institutes is the most trusted maritime training school in India. HIMT has five campuses, more than 100 teachers, and over 75 approved courses and has handed out more than 450,000 certificates to maritime workers all over the world.

HIMT offers courses that are approved by the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) and the Government of India, which used to be called the Directorate General of Shipping. UK MCA also approves HIMT courses. HIMT also partners with the Indian Maritime University (IMU). Because of these approvals and partnerships, HIMT is a leader in learning. HIMT is large, has good quality, and always works hard for excellence.

Does HIMT Provide DNS Sponsorship?

NO, as per the official website, HIMT does not provide sponsorship.  HIMT does not give sponsorships as a shipping company. The official FAQ of HIMT says that HIMT does not give sponsorships. HIMT still runs recruitment drives and helps create sponsorship opportunities with shipping companies.

I think this difference is important. A candidate does not get a sponsorship letter just because the candidate gets admission to HIMT. The candidate must pass the selection process set by the sponsoring company or its recruitment program.

For example, HIMT ran a BSM recruitment drive for DNS cadets for the August 2026 batch. Candidates that HIMT shortlisted were sent to BSM for the company’s selection process.

HIMT DNS Sponsorship Companies

The companies available for DNS sponsorship can change from one intake to another depending on manpower requirements and recruitment programs.

HIMT has conducted sponsorship and recruitment programs with companies and organizations, including:

  • Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM)
  • Synergy Maritime
  • IMEC member companies
  • Wallem
  • V. Ships
  • Columbia Shipmanagement
  • Western Shipping
  • BergeBulk
  • Unix Line
  • ASP Ships Group
  • Marlow Navigation
  • d’Amico Ship Ishima, India

IMEC Indian Cadet Program, at HIMT, has earlier listed many of these companies as participating sponsors. Not all the listed companies need to select the candidates for the DNS batch. sponsorship companies, and vacancies depend on the intake.

HIMT DNS Sponsorship Eligibility

The basic eligibility for the HIMT DNS course is based on the applicable IMU and maritime training requirements.

For the 2026 HIMT DNS course, the institute lists the following academic requirements:

Requirement

Details

Qualification

10+2/equivalent with PCM

PCM Marks

Minimum 60% average

English

Minimum 50% in 10th/12th

IMU-CET

Valid IMU-CET rank required

Marital Status

Unmarried

Medical Fitness

Must meet DGMA/DG Shipping medical standards

HIMT also accepts some graduate qualifications for the DNS course according to its listed eligibility rules, such as certain B.Sc., B.E./B.Tech qualifications.

However, companies may have different eligibility rules than the basic course eligibility.

For example, in the 2026 BSM DNS recruitment drive organized by HIMT, candidates were required:

  • More than 60% in 12th English
  • More than 60% aggregate in PCM
  • IMU-CET 2026 rank below 10,000
  • Maximum age of 21 years as of August 1, 2026
  • Required medical fitness and eyesight standards

This shows why candidates should always check the eligibility criteria of the specific sponsorship drive rather than relying only on the general DNS eligibility.

HIMT DNS Sponsorship Medical Requirements

Medical fitness is an important part of DNS sponsorship.

According to the official website, the candidates must fulfill the basic medical requirements that are

  • Unaided vision of 6/6 in the better eye
  • Unaided vision of 6/9 in the other eye
  • No color blindness
  • Appropriate eye health and binocular vision
  • Required physical fitness
  • Hearing and other medical standards as applicable

The medical examination must be performed by a DG Shipping-approved doctor. A candidate must be prepared with one’s medical report. Even if he passes the written/interview but cannot meet the basic medical requirements, then he will not be selected.

Check your medical requirements through the Merchant Navy Decoded app.

Merchant Navy Decoded App for Aspirants

The Merchant Navy Decoded App is another useful resource for students preparing for the Merchant Navy admission pathway.

The app provides Merchant Navy-related information and preparation resources, including an IMU-CET test series. Regular mock-test practice can help students improve speed and identify weak areas before the examination. Students can combine this with sponsorship-focused preparation and interview practice for a more complete preparation strategy.

HIMT DNS Sponsorship Through BSM

One of the recent sponsorship opportunities at HIMT was the BSM DNS recruitment drive for the August 2026 batch. BSM and HIMT invited applications from candidates who had completed Class 12 with PCM and wanted to become deck cadets onboard BSM vessels.

The selection process was structured in stages:

  1. Registration
  2. Document submission and application fee payment
  3. HIMT shortlisting
  4. Payment of the initial token amount by shortlisted candidates
  5. Forwarding of shortlisted candidates to BSM
  6. BSM selection process
  7. Final selection and commencement of the DNS course

The 2026 drive listed an application fee of ₹999, course fees of ₹4,95,000, and a refundable caution deposit of ₹20,000. The course fee included accommodation, food, workshops, a laboratory, a library, a uniform, and books.

These figures are specific to that sponsorship drive and should not be treated as permanent fees for every future HIMT DNS batch.

HIMT DNS Sponsorship Through IMEC

Another important route is the IMEC Indian Cadet Program; this program can also lead to a successful career at sea.

The International Maritime Employers Council, known as IMEC, represents employers in the industry. IMEC launched its Indian Cadet Training Program in 2023. Through this program, candidates are Interviewed by IMEC member shipping companies. I think the opportunity to meet employers is a big advantage.

The selection process listed by HIMT includes:

  • Registration—sign up for the program.
  • Application fee payment—pay the fee to secure your spot.
  • Application review and medical examination—the organization will review your documents. Run a medical check.
  • Preparation for the IMEC written test and interview—study the materials and practice.
  • IMEC written test—take the written exam.
  • Online interview with an IMEC member company—have an interview with company officials.
  • Sponsorship letter for selected candidates—receive a letter that shows the company will support you. The sponsorship letter is issued before the candidate joins the course.

For the IMEC intake listed by HIMT, the academic requirement was 60% aggregate in PCM and 60% in English along with a valid IMU-CET rank.

The medical requirements included 6/6 vision in one eye, in the worst case 6/9 in the other eye, and no color blindness. Because these requirements were published for an intake, candidates should check the latest recruitment notice before applying.

Is IMU-CET Mandatory for HIMT DNS Sponsorship?

Yes!!!. If DNS admission candidates want DNS admission through an institute that is affiliated with IMU, DNS admission candidates must have an IMU-CET rank. The 2026 prospectus from IMU says that IMU-CET is required for DNS admissions approved by DGS and that DNS admission at institutes is only available to sponsored candidates.

A key point for those going for the February DNS batch is that the IMU-CET rank from 2026 still counts for the February 2027 DNS batch.

There is no IMU-CET test for that February DNS admission. So DNS admission students who plan to enter in February for DNS should not think they can skip the IMU-CET.

JMDI IMU-CET Preparation Book

For students preparing specifically for IMU-CET, JMDI and Merchant Navy Decoded also offer an IMU-CET preparation book. The official JMDI page describes the book as covering concept-based learning, chapter-wise practice, previous-year question analysis, and full-length mock-test preparation.

The price can change with offers. The current official listing shows the book at ₹1,599, although it may commonly be referred to as the approximately ₹1,500 book.

HIMT DNS Fees

The DNS fee depends on the particular admission or sponsorship program. For example, HIMT’s BSM DNS recruitment drive for August 2026 listed:

Particulars

Amount

Application Fee

₹999

Course Fees

₹4,95,000

Refundable Caution Deposit

₹20,000

The listed course fee included accommodation, food, workshops, laboratory, library, uniform, and books. Examination fees and applicable IMU program fees are separate.)

The IMEC DNS program page also lists a course fee of ₹4,95,000 and a refundable caution deposit of ₹20,000, with examination and yearly IMU fees payable separately.

Students should check the specific sponsorship notice before making any payment because fees and application conditions can change between intakes.

Is HIMT Good for DNS?

HIMT is an IMU-affiliated and DGMA-approved maritime training institute offering DNS as a pre-sea program. Its pre-sea campus includes facilities such as a ship-in-campus, laboratories, simulators, and residential facilities.  However, it does not guarantee a job. Even after sponsorships, one must not think that it guarantees a job.

For DNS, sponsorship is one of the most important parts of the admission process because the candidate needs sponsorship to enter an affiliated DNS program and subsequently obtain the required sea training opportunity. A student should compare the sponsorship company, selection criteria, training arrangement, fees, and career pathway instead of choosing an institute only because of its name.
