DNS Sponsorship Form Fees

DNS Sponsorship Form Fees

Sponsorship plays a key role in the DNS admission procedure for aspirants willing to enroll in the DNS program. In the present admission process, DNS aspirants applying for DNS admission via affiliated institutes need to apply through the sponsored seat process alone. IMU Circular No. 2611 dated 16 July 2026 particularly deals with DNS admission to the 2026-27 batch in affiliated colleges through sponsors alone.

Another frequent query made by applicants is ‘What is the cost of the DNS sponsorship form?’

A flat fee cannot be charged for all companies. The amount varies according to the company, institute, or sponsor program through which the applicant applies. While some sponsorship forms come free of charge, others carry an application fee in the range of a few hundred or thousands of rupees.

The DNS sponsorship form fee is different from the IMU-CET fee, medical charges, psychometric test fees, and DNS course fee.

What Is a DNS Sponsorship Form?

A DNS sponsorship form is an application submitted by a candidate for consideration for a company’s sponsored DNS seat.

The form normally asks for details such as the following:

  • Candidate’s name and contact details
  • Date of birth
  • Class 10 marks
  • Class 12 marks
  • PCM marks
  • English marks
  • IMU-CET details
  • Passport details, where applicable
  • Academic documents
  • Other information required by the sponsoring company

After registration, the candidate may have to appear for the company’s selection process.

Depending on the organization, this may involve a written examination, aptitude test, interview, psychometric assessment, and medical examination.

Is There a Fixed DNS Sponsorship Form Fee?

No. There isn’t one universal cost for a sponsorship application to be paid by all merchant navy organizations.

Different organizations set their own rates of admission and examination fees. Also, a fee may vary depending on the admission process cycle.

For instance, according to the official recruitment information of MSC for 2026, the rate of the entrance exam fee is ₹1,000, and medical and psychological tests cost separately.

Thus, a student shouldn’t think that a certain sum is the common “DNS sponsorship fee.”

Why Do DNS Sponsorship Form Fees Differ?

Here are some of the reasons:

Some companies have an entrance test on their own with an exam fee, while some others might process applications without charging any registration fee.

Sometimes the document that students refer to as a ‘sponsorship form’ could be an institute application where the company uses its own sponsorship program. Therefore, it is crucial to know what you are paying for. The amount of the application fee does not necessarily mean anything about how good the sponsorship program is.

DNS Sponsorship Form Fee vs. IMU-CET Fee

These are two separate payments. The IMU-CET application fee is payable to Indian Maritime University for applying for the Common Entrance Test. The fee for the sponsorship form is payable for the specific company/institute’s admission/selection process.

The DNS aspirant thus might have to make payment of both.

In its prospectus 2026-27, IMU says candidates who apply for admission to any IMU-affiliated institutes have to go through the admission process of the institute concerned after qualifying in IMU-CET. The 2026 CET rank will be valid for the Feb 2027 intake of DNS also, without any separate CET for the intake.

Is the Sponsorship Form Fee the Same as DNS Course Fees?

No. This is the most crucial differentiation that the student needs to make. A sponsorship form fee is basically a minimal application fee or exam fee.

The DNS course fee is the amount paid for taking the pre-sea training course. For example, as per the 2026 recruitment schedule of MSC, the following are the fees that have been mentioned:

  • Entrance Exam Fee = ₹1,000
  • Medical & Eyesight Test Fee ≈ ₹7,000
  • Online Psychometric Test Fee ≈ ₹1,000
  • Non-refundable Fee ≈ ₹10,000 (in case of selection)

DNS course fees as per the institute’s fee structure. These are two different fees.

Other Expenses You May Have to Pay

The sponsorship form is only one part of the overall admission expenditure.

1. IMU-CET Application Fee

Candidates need to pay the applicable IMU-CET registration fee when applying for the examination.

2. Sponsorship Examination Fee

Some companies charge separately for their written examination.

3. Medical Examination

A candidate selected or shortlisted for sponsorship may need to undergo a medical and eyesight examination through an approved medical facility.

4. Psychometric Test

Certain companies include psychometric testing in their selection process. MSC’s 2026 information, for example, lists an approximate ₹1,000 charge for its online psychometric test.

5. Institute Fees

After selection, the candidate has to pay the applicable DNS training and other institute charges. The amount depends on the institute and the particular sponsorship arrangement.

Does Paying the Sponsorship Form Fee Guarantee Selection?

No. Payment only allows the candidate to participate in the relevant application or examination process.

It does not guarantee:

  • Sponsorship
  • Admission
  • Selection in the written examination
  • Selection in the interview
  • Medical fitness
  • Shipboard training

The candidate still has to satisfy the eligibility requirements and complete the company’s selection process.

Can a Student Apply for Multiple DNS Sponsorships?

Students can apply to different sponsorship opportunities if they meet the respective eligibility conditions.

However, every company can have its own:

  • Application fee
  • Examination
  • Eligibility criteria
  • Exam date
  • Interview process
  • Medical requirements
  • Sponsorship terms

If a student applies to several companies, the total amount spent on application and examination fees can consequently be higher.

Want to check whether you meet the DNS eligibility requirements? You can use the Merchant Navy Decoded Eligibility Calculator to enter your academic and basic details and get an eligibility check for relevant maritime courses.

Are DNS Sponsorship Form Fees Refundable?

This varies according to the organization. Most fees paid for application and examinations are not refundable, especially after the application or examination procedure has commenced.

Candidates should review the refund policy before paying their fees. Never take it for granted that your money will automatically be refunded if you are not selected.

Can You Find DNS Sponsorship Forms Without Paying Any Fee?

Yes. Some 2026 sponsorship listings show ₹0 application fees, including Scorpio and Fleet Management in the listed admission cycle.  However, a free application does not mean that the complete admission process is free.

Candidates may still have to pay for:

  • IMU-CET
  • Medical examination
  • Psychometric assessment
  • Travel
  • Documentation
  • DNS course
  • Hostel and other institute charges

DNS Sponsorship and the February 2027 Batch

Students who took part in IMU-CET 2026 must take note of the February DNS intake.

As clearly specified in IMU’s 2026-27 prospectus, “The IMU-CET 2026 rank certificate is valid for the February 2027 DNS batch.” Those who wish to join the February 2027 DNS don’t need to participate in a separate CET.

It is evident from the current IMU admission circulars that DNS admissions in affiliated institutes are being managed through sponsorships.  This allows students with an IMU-CET 2026 rank to consider pursuing the DNS option.

Merchant Navy Decoded App for Aspirants

The Merchant Navy Decoded App is another useful resource for students preparing for the Merchant Navy admission pathway.

The app provides Merchant Navy-related information and preparation resources, including an IMU-CET test series. Regular mock-test practice can help students improve speed and identify weak areas before the examination. Students can combine this with sponsorship-focused preparation and interview practice for a more complete preparation strategy

What Should You Check Before Paying a Sponsorship Form Fee?

Before making any payment, check the following:

  • Who is accepting the payment?
  • Is the application connected to the actual company or institute?
  • What exactly does the fee cover?
  • Is it a registration fee or examination fee?
  • Is it refundable?
  • What is the last date for submission?
  • What is the examination date?
  • What are the eligibility requirements?
  • Is IMU-CET required?
  • What happens after clearing the examination?

Most importantly, use the company’s official recruitment/application channel whenever available.

Why Students Should Not Choose a Sponsorship Only Based on Form Fee

A ₹500 form and a ₹2,000 form do not tell you which sponsorship is better.

The more useful things to compare are

  • Sponsoring company
  • Training arrangement
  • Institute
  • Fleet
  • Onboard training
  • Career progression
  • Sponsorship conditions
  • Total course expenditure
  • Placement/sea-time arrangement

The sponsorship form fee is only the entry cost for the selection process.

JMDI Academy for DNS Sponsorship Preparation

JMDI Academy, Dehradun, provides preparation support for students targeting Merchant Navy entrance examinations and company sponsorships.

For aspirants, preparation can include PCM, English, aptitude, mock tests, communication, and interview practice.

Preparing for sponsorship and IMU-CET together can help students avoid treating the two processes as completely separate examinations.

Students preparing for DNS Sponsorship can also explore JMDI Academy’s preparation resources, including its IMU-CET book and test series, to strengthen their exam preparation through regular practice, MCQs, sample papers, and mock tests. Along with preparation resources.

Important Points About DNS Sponsorship Form Fees

  • There is no universal DNS sponsorship form fee.
  • The fee depends on the company or institute.
  • Some applications can be free.
  • Some companies charge a registration or examination fee.
  • MSC’s 2026 entrance examination fee is ₹1,000.
  • Medical and psychometric charges are separate.
  • IMU-CET charges are separate.
  • The sponsorship form fee is not the DNS course fee.
  • Paying the fee does not guarantee sponsorship.
  • DNS admission through IMU-affiliated institutes currently follows the sponsored-seat requirement.
  • IMU-CET 2026 rank can be used for the February 2027 DNS batch.

Final Thoughts

Although the amount charged for filling up the DNS sponsorship form is quite low when compared with the total cost of the entire DNS course, students need to be very careful while considering the fee.

It is not possible to state the same price for all the sponsorships. In the case of the 2026 admission cycle, some of the forms have been free, and others have had the charge of a few hundred rupees to more than ₹2,000.

In the case of MSC’s 2026 recruitment program, for example, the fee for the entrance test is listed as ₹1,000, and separate fees are charged for the medical and psychometric tests.

It is also necessary to understand that IMU-CET and sponsorship are two different stages of the admission procedure. According to the present policy of IMU, there will be a need for sponsored students for admission to the DNS course via affiliated institutions.

If you have an IMU-CET 2026 rank, then you can also opt for the February 2027 batch of DNS, as IMU has already declared that the same 2026 rank will also be considered valid for this batch.
